what to do for nightime gerd?I now take 30 mg of preicid twice a day and sucralfate before lunch and dinner, but still at night at about 2 am I get that pain in the top of the stomach. I deal with it now with tums, but would like to get beyond that. I've given up all carbs, processed suger and dairy.

Do not eat for several hours before going to sleep. Raise your head on pillows or raise the head of the bed on blocks. Sleep on your back or on your left-- sleeping on the right can increase GERD symptoms because of anatomy (shape of the stomach means things reflux up the esophagus). Eliminate caffeine and spicy foods. Hope some of these are things you haven't tried yet and you have some success controlling the symptoms!
Good luck.

You appear to be making a good effort to help correct the situation, try adding these suggestions to your eating habits: eat smaller meals throughout the day, eat slowly, remain upright after eating, and try not to eat anything at least two hours before bedtime. Some people also find it helpful to sleep with an incline pillow that raises the upper portion of your body higher than the rest. By doing this, excess stomach acids do not as easily flow upwards and back towards the esophagus, creating that awful burning feeling. There are also several other foods that you need to be aware of that increase the acids in the stomach: citrus fruits, tomatoes, caffeine, chocolate are main offenders. See the reference below for more helpful information.
