What does this sound like? IBS? Medication side-effect? Please Help!?Hello everyone. I am having a digestive problem and I can't figure out what it is.
Background: I have been diagnosed with GERD and am taking 40mg Zegerid once a day with breakfast. This works great against my acid.
The Problem: I feel great most of the time, I eat healthy and avoid pop, spicy foods, and certain IBS triggers. However, I seem to be constipated during this time. Not a lot comes out when I go. I experience some mild gas and cramps at times. Then every 2-3 weeks I'll have a period of about 2 days where I'll have a dull ache in my stomach and I'm going to the bathroom a lot, I mean a LOT is coming out! My stomach feels like someone is squeezing it, like trying to get the last drop out of a tube of toothpaste. On 2nd day my stomach just feels more exhausted. I don't lose appetite or anything but it makes it feel worse when eating. But like I said it lasts for two days or so and then I'm fine again for the next 2-3 weeks. Does this sound like IBS? What should I do??? Thanks!!
Thanks for the responses so far guys, just wanted to add that I've had all the tests done, including colonoscopy and they all came back fine. The only thing mentionable was they noticed a thickening of my inestinal wall after the barium x ray thing but dismissed it after the colonoscopy came back fine. also my gall bladder ejection fraction was 35% if that means anything, my doctor didn't seem to think so...

Yes it does. I have had it for a long time and I have no idea what to tell you to do. I have tried so many meds for it but no good. Many people are helped a great deal by the meds though. You should see a specialist for it. (I also have the GERD)

i have crones so i sympathize with you . i don't know if it is ibs it could be or it could be you have a blockage you need to see a doctor about this problem if its a blockage an is left untreated it can cause Major health issues this can be settled with a test called colonoscapy an the doctor can tell you what type of treatment is best for you

Yup, sounds like IBS to me. I have it, too. You might have a food allergy/sensitivity that's causing it. Try keeping a diary of everything you eat and what sypmtoms you experience. Even if that doesn't reveal some obvious cause and effect relationship, you can take it to your doctor and show him/her what's going on.
One thing that helps my IBS is taking fiber supplements and drinking plenty of fluids. It helps loosen up the constipation and firm up the diarrhea. Other than that, the only thing that helps is avoiding my #1 trigger (eggs) and managing my stress levels. (Stress will irritiate IBS, believe it or not.)
