I have an upper endoscopy scheduled for Friday and I need some helpful information.?

GERD edited the following:

I have an upper endoscopy scheduled for Friday and I need some helpful information.?OK let me tell you a little about myself:

I'm a 21 year old male, I'm taking Protonix, I had a cough that has gotten better in recent weeks, it used to be I'd get coughing fits maybe once a week where I'd cough so hard I'd vomit a little bit, but I'm never actually sick, however, this cough I've had since like last year, but my doc feels its GERD related. But I haven't had a coughing fit in over a month. I feel as though I have a runny nose sometimes and swallowing mucus. I do NOT cough blood, I do NOT have blood in my stools, I do NOT have trouble swallowing or anything like that. I burp a lot, it makes me feel better, and one odd thing is, I NEVER have heartburn. One doctor said Gastritis, the other said GERD. They're doing an endoscopy, I feel healthy as a horse. What do you think they'll find, I'm rather nervous about my health as I don't feel like anything is wrong with me other than anyone else that has mild symptoms of acid reflux. I'm basically asking this so I can feel a little more secure and not worry as much. Thanks in advance for the info and responses!
Oh and one major thing I forgot to add... I stress a lot, like a lot more than I should.
Mya that was totally pointless and off subject, you're an idiot.
Protonix, that's all I take, no other medications. Like I said, other than this I'm totally healthy. I play sports, just a normal 21 year old.

The stress can cause symptoms of GERD by itself.

You did not mention if you were on any other medications, some medications have "chronic coughing" as a side effect....

Structural abnormalities can cause coughing as well...by causing irritation or even triggering you cilia of your mucous lining....both = cough.

They may find nothing, as you say you are healthy as a horse. They could find a small structural issue. They could find you have a stress induced ulcer.

Either way though, the EGD sounds like a good idea. It never hurts to get a test done (well most of the time).

And if it is a stress ulcer...stop worrying so much...that would be what is causing it....

Stress is a killer...No joke! but I guess it can't be avoided. Are you worried about the procedure?? or what they will find??

As for the procedure, you seriously will not feel much. I had one done about 6 months ago, and I too was very nervous and anxious about the procedure and what they would find. You will not remember much and it will be over in 10-15 mins. You will wake up and the doctor can tell you most of the time the same day what he/she saw. If they see something that is a concern they will do a biopsy at the same time. they can tell you if there is any thing wrong with your stomach, throat, esophagus. Don't worry it will be painless and it's better to know now.It could very well juts be mild gerd. Hang in there and Good luck!
