Several small meals (4-6) instead of 3 larger ones. Stay quiet & upright for at least 30 minutes after eating. Don't eat or drink within a 2-3 hours of bedtime. Try to stay off your left side (avoids putting pressure on stomach) after eating. Chocolate, mint and alcohol can make GERD worse beause they relax the cardiac spincter (the valve between the esophagus and the stomach). Avoid spicy and acidic foods (tomatoes, citrus fruits, cranberry). No smoking. Don't wear clothing that's tight around your middle. Lose weight. And of course, continue with your meds.

First, get yourself some Prevacid or have the dr. prescribe the generic of it. Then, watch what you are eating. No acidic foods (tomatos, etc.), no hot spices, no garlic, no onions. try to keep your food pretty bland. Eat about 2 hours before you even think about lying down, or longer time. Drink lots of water to keep the mucus you are throwing up lighter. Spit the mucous out every chance you get. Keep your bowels moving well. I have GERD and I've really worked on living with this. This is what helps me, and I hope it may help you, too! Good luck, I really mean that.
