How fluid ounces of pure acid must be added to get 6% acidity?A gallon of white vinegar is labeled 5% acidity. How many fluid ounces of pure acid must be added to get 6% acidity?
The answer is 1.36 ounces. I would like to know how this is worked out.
I put the following equation together, but it does not come out right, what am I doing wrong?
128(0.05)+1X = 0.06
Thanks

Your working equation should be
(128)(0.05) + X(1) = (128 + X)(0.06)
6.4 + X = 7.68 + 0.06X
Combining terms,
0.94X = 7.68 - 6.4 = 1.28
X = 1.36 ounces
Hope this helps.
