Do stomach hernias require surgery??? ppl with experinece prefered to answer this q please..?i have a hiatus hernia and GERD and gastritis.....i had an endoscopy done so thats what he diagnosed me with...but right now im just taking medicine for GERD and not my hiatus hernia??? what do u think??

ur hernia may be the cause of all ur problems.
That was the case for my grandma she had to have surgery to get the hernia out and ever since then she doesnt have anymore problems with her stomach.

Hiatal Hernia - Treatment Overview
A sliding hiatal hernia that causes no symptoms generally needs no treatment.
If you have symptoms, you probably have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Hiatal hernia and GERD often occur together. Your symptoms may vary from mild to severe.
If you have severe GERD symptoms, they often can be treated successfully with medicines. Less commonly, a sliding hiatal hernia can be surgically repaired through fundoplication, a procedure in which the hernia is pulled down from the chest cavity and stitched (sutured) so that it remains within the abdomen (belly). Occasional or mild symptoms can generally be treated with home treatment, including lifestyle changes and nonprescription medicines.
If you have a paraesophageal or mixed hiatal hernia, surgery generally is recommended to avoid complications. Consult your doctor.

Hiatus hernia surgery tends to be, very radical, and invasive... deflating lungs etc.. to get to it, so tends to be done as a last resort, The drug treatment you are taking, should alleviate all the symptoms of all the problems you listed, so, the surgery may not be required in the end. Hope this helps
