Pantoprazole is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition in which backward flow of acid from the stomach causes heartburn and injury of the food pipe (esophagus). It is also used to treat conditions where the stomach produces too much acid, such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Pantoprazole is in a class of medications called proton-pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
Please see the web pages for more details on Pantoprazole.

Yes you can still take your antacid but I doubt if you'll still need it. As the previous poster has said, Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor which to put it simply, makes your stomach produce less acid in comparison to antacids which just temporarily neutralizes stomach acid. Proton pump inhibitors are very effective in inhibiting acid secretion that once daily dosing is enough but it takes around a day or two for it to take full effect. Once it does, you wont be needing your antacids because the secretion of acids are indefinitely inhibited until you stop taking the drug, in which again, it will take the same amount of time for the acid secretion to return.
