I need some advice plz 10 points thank you.?Ok i am a 20 year old female.
I have acid reflux aka GERD.
I was just wondering what is the best otc meds for it because i cant go see my doctor until jan 8th.
And can acid reflux cause your stomach to burn? and or headaches because i have been getting headaches alot.
I also have health anxiety really bad.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.

Before you buy any otc med, let me ask how much water do you drink daily? Do you know how many problems come from being dehydrated? Did you know that approx 85% of headaches are due to dehydration?!? Try drinking now...make sure you get 6 glasses a day, and do NOT substitute coffee, beer, or cola! Let me know what happens in a few days with the reflux...that should be an obvious change you can notice ; keep a journal to see if this gets rid of those mysterious headaches that have no otherwise obvious cause!

I suffer from it really badly too :/ It can cause your stomach to burn if not treated, and your oesophagus, and can lead to ulcers. Rather nasty lol. But if you have the correct medication your needn't worry. My doctor prescribes me with Ranitidine, which always works fantastic. However, so I don't have to keep going back, I get antacids from over the counter at the Chemist. There are so many brands, so there is no point telling you exactly the ones I take, as the Chemist will tell you the best thing. And also, different countries, and different places sell different medication. So really, just go to your chemist and ask for the best Antacid they have in stock. Sometimes they come in the form of medicine, and sometimes in a form of tablets. At the moment I take a medicine which coats the stomach and oesophagus to protect them from burning acid, after I have eaten a large meal, and before bed. It has really helped me, so I recommend asking for that. I no longer vomit up acid daily, and I no longer feel ill every morning I wake up. So they are the sort of things you need to ask your Chemist for :) Also, I have cut down on citrus fruit such as Oranges, and foods which contain lots of vinegar etc. As those foods are what I notice causes the most discomfort (heartburn) after eating them, and I now drink much more water. I hope that helps.

GERD is a terrible thing. I've taken many things (Prilosec, Carafate, even Reglan, etc.) and I suggest Protonix. A lot of people have good luck with Protonix, but you'll have to get a prescription. If you can't, go with Prilosec. It's OTC now and may be your only bet. I don't have much luck with antacids, but liquid Maalox works best for me (because it coats the throat and esophagus, and I tend to vomit up acid and bile). And acid reflux DEFINITELY makes the stomach and chest burn. A LOT. The headaches could be related, but probably not, though I do have experience with those, too.

Your anxiety could be rooted in a lot of the GERD symptoms (tightness in chest, pain in chest, shortness of breath). Get to a gastroenterologist and I hope you find relief.
