Gastro appointment next week.....?After suffering for some time now, I have finally made an appointment with a gastro Dr. I have severe acid reflux. I was diagnosed with GERD 5 years ago from my family Dr. Ive had my gallbladder removed and an scope done. I have been on all the scripts out there for acid reflux and nothing is helping me. Ive also tried everything natural, changed what I eat, and lifestyle changes.

The acid is so bad no matter what I eat. I have lost about 10 pounds in 3 weeks due to only being able to eat bread and even then vomiting it up half the time because the acid gets too bad. Even drinking water makes it unbearable. I have raised the bed- didnt help. I still wake up choking on stomach acid. I now sleep in a chair which also isnt helping.

Ive made the appointment with the gastro dr because My grandma died of pancreatic cancer, my grandpa died of colon cancer and my other grandma had esophageal cancer.

Ive heard of a few surgeries that can help out with the acid reflux but how do I approach my Dr with what I would like to be done? Or do I not express what I want and just listen to what he says. I have never been to a gastro Dr before and Im a lil scared about it. Help please?

Your gastro dr. will provide you with suggestions. I ha a similar experience to yours but it got to the point i couldn't eat bread or french fries due to the amount of scar tissue so I would choke on the and have to scoop it out of my throat. Eating shaved plain ham was the only food I could really eat with no problems. DO NOT DRINK WATER! That is the first thing the Gastro will tell you. You need to drink soda withing the first 30mins of waking to neutralize the acid and eat within an hour. Water does nothing to the build up acid in your tummy except for irritate it. You should be eating every 3hrs to decrease the acid in your stomach, no dairy, no acidic, or spicy food. Seriously stick to the soda and shaved ham or turkey.
When you meet with your dr. just tell him of everything that is going on especially the losing weight and tell him you already made the life style change. See what he suggests and if you alreay tried it tell him.
Your gastro dr. should be seen as your best friend, don't be scared. Seriously no water, tea, or coffee.

Molly, Your story is like looking into the mirRIr me, I have severe acid reflux disease the whole 2007 I was fed thru a feeding tube, I could drink a sip of water anbandrow it right back up, 3 surgeries later I still have a few episodes of vomiting in the am if anything is left on my stomach over night, Normally your stomach empties every 4 hrs. mine empties about every 10-12 hrs. The name of the surgery was FLUMULTIPLICATIONot sure of the spelling ) they make a band around the opening of the stomach so acid or food won't come back up into your throat, watch the waking up choking with me it led to aspaspiration Pneumonis liked to died. I wish you all the blessings the lord has for you. Rita V
